About Melton Community First Responders

Community First Responders (CFRs) make the difference when minutes matter.

Melton Community First Responders were established in 2004.

Community First Responders are volunteers who attend 999 emergency calls in their own community. We are trained by East Midlands Ambulance Service (EMAS).
We are dispatched by the EMAS Emergency Operations Centre in the same way as an ambulance.

Because Community First Responders live in the local community, we can often arrive at the scene of the emergency much faster than an ambulance.
If we arrive first on scene, Community First Responders can provide assessment and treatment for the patient before the arrival of an ambulance.

We are sent to a variety of incidents including cardiac arrests, breathing difficulties, strokes, trauma emergencies and anaphylaxis shock.

The incidents we attend can be in your own home, in public, in the workplace or in community homes.

Upon arrival of the ambulance crew, our volunteers will give a detailed handover to the team which can help speed up treatment to the patient.

We also work alongside multiple partner agencies on incidents including Leicestershire Police, Leicestershire Fire & Rescue Service and The Air Ambulance Service.
